Captain Marlin Parker

In November 1954, Kona charter Captain George Parker captured a 1,002-pound Pacific blue marlin, the first Pacific blue grander ever landed in US waters. It smashed the All-Tackle world record.

His first son was born shortly thereafter and was named in honor of the grand fish. It was destiny that landed MARLIN PARKER in the world of big game fishing.

Marlin Parker was raised fishing with his father. When he was 5 years old and fishing with his parents, they fought a marlin estimated at over 1000 pounds. As his mother and father took turns in the fighting chair trying to catch the giant fish, the 5-year-old assisted on the controls. After many hours the giant fish was lost, but the memory is as vivid today as if it happened last week.

Parker began chartering professionally in 1976. Only months after receiving his Captain’s license, he landed a 1,257-pound monster, which was, at that time, the largest Blue Marlin ever weighed at Kailua-Kona caught on 80-pound class tackle. It was a prophetic beginning for the skipper who is regarded as one of the best marlin fishermen in the islands, and even worldwide. His largest blue to date hit the scales at an incredible 1400 pounds. It still stands in the top 10 largest Pacific blue marlin ever landed on rod and reel.

Captain Marlin Parker’s tournament record is enviable. His teams have taken first place for years in Kona and abroad, with such outstanding tournament wins as the World Cup Tournament (2002) and twice winning the Bisbee’s Black & Blue in Los Cabos Mexico (2004 & 2016).

He is a seven-time recipient of the prestigious Richard Boone Award given to the top skipper in the Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament. He has also won the Henry Chee award three times.

Captain Marlin Parker has built a reputation catching BIG blue marlin and has more experience catching big fish in Kona Hawaii than most any other captain in the Pacific Ocean. Today Marlin’s experience goes beyond Kona waters. He has spent 12 seasons fishing the Great Barrier Reef of Australia, 25 years fishing in Mexico, and several years in Florida and Costa Rica.

Marlin has carried on his father’s tradition of building custom lures and is now a well known lure maker of Marlin Magic lures that can be found worldwide.
